OFCOM on form

It's not very often we come across anything other than criticism directed as organisations like OFCOM, so it's nice to report something good.

Our secretary rang them to try to get three SES callsigns, including  a rather special one, starting GB100. Ash, the person dealing with the call said he didn't think that would be allowed given the circumstances quoted, but offered to do what he could. He rang back the following day, as promised, albeit with the bad news of no, but then asked that the application for an alternative call, together with the other two, be sent to him marked "private & confidential", and he would make sure everything went through OK.

True to his word, a few days later all three notices of variation landed on the doormat. Well done Ash!                  

Sad Sign of the Times

The cancellation of the Elvaston Castle Rally was a very sad piece of news. It's been one of the largest and most popular rallies around for a good number of years, and almost always worth the journey, whether it be for finding in the flea market that elusive component, buying a bit of new equipment from inside one of the huge marquees, or meeting friends and enjoying a chat and a hot pork sandwich together!

Falling attendances and spiralling costs have been cited as the reasons for its demise, and recent rises in the cost of fuel would have added to both of those problems.

Let's hope that one day circumstances are right for this major event to be returned to our "must visit" list.

If you haven't logged in for a while, you'll see things have changed a bit. Hopefully this new style will be faster to load and easier on the eye than our previous web incarnations. If you do have any problems with any pages, please let us know.

Our website has primarily been used an on-line newsletter, and it will still have that function, but we're hoping to expand with a bit more about our hobby itself. Over the next few weeks, we'll be adding some new pages, and we've started with one for RSGB information.
